Museum kits available for loan
A fresh batch of lending kits from the Qld Museum have arrived on the Western Downs!
The Queensland Museum have put together some great kits for educators on a wide range of topics. Museum Kits can be a fantastic way to add interest and engagement to a lesson and you can borrow them from your local Western Downs library branch.
If you’re a teacher, you might be looking for something to add a little pizzaz to a lesson. If you’re a home schooler, you might be looking for something to support an entire unit of study. Either way, it’s worth checking out the current set of kits available for reservation right now!
Take a look at:
- Traditional Language: Jarowair – this kit asks the questions, “What makes a place special?” and “How can we look after the places we live in?”. It contains a range of specimens native to Jarowair land (from Toowoomba to the Bunyas), along with bi-lingual cards to help learn their names in the Jarowair language.
- Gold Diggers – how do we know what life was like for people living in Australia’s Colonial past? This kit contains a range of artefacts and resources that show how people lived and the significant events and people of the time.
- Cultural Celebrations: Feasts – have some fun investigating various cultural feasts from around the world, while learning about how our identity is shaped by our culture and place.
- Amphibian Life Cycles – the transformation of a frog as it grows to maturity is amazing! This kit helps you explore the various stages of a frog’s life cycle. This kit would be ideal for Early Years children.
- Mangroves – learn about how mangroves provide a unique and special part of the ecosystem, providing for the needs of a wide variety of living things.
- Fossils, Minerals & Rocks – the Earth’s surface changes over time. Explore the impact of both natural processes and human activity through a range of fun activities. This kit contains dozens of samples of minerals, rocks and fossils!
