Mosaic Serving Trays at Jandowae
Serving up your Christmas drinks has never looked so good as it does on these glass mosaic serving trays. This month, a group of Jandowae ladies came together over two days to learn the popular craft of mosaics. Mosaic is a decorative art of creating pictures and patterns on a surface by setting pieces of glass, marble, ceramic or other materials in a bed of cement, plaster or adhesive. The trays could be used as a serving tray or a decorative tray to display flowers, ornaments and candles.
Library Officer Karel showed the group the tools and materials used to create their own glass mosaic serving tray. Each person was given a similar selection of coloured and textured pre-cut glass, however each person created a tray that was beautifully unique. The glass was kindly donated by a travelling tourist who enjoys stained glass lead lighting as a hobby. It was lovely to be able re-purpose his glass offcuts.
Keep an eye out for our future workshops at Jandowae. We are planning Christmas Craft for children in the school holidays, a Polymer Clay earring workshop in January and a Cake Decorating workshop in time for Valentines Day. Bookings for these workshops and many more are available through the ‘What’s On’ tab of the Western Downs Libraries site.
