Meet the Team – Jandowae
Jandowae Library is a modern community space that people can use for meetings, to relax and enjoy a book, read the latest newspaper and to access the public computers.
The Jandowae community has come to love many and varied lifestyle sessions offered at their library. These have included Paint Pouring, Mosaics, Polymer Clay Earrings and Macramé, just to name a few.
Jandowae Library is staffed by Karel, Violy and Maree. Collectively, the three staff share 42 years of service. Wow, it must be a great place to work!
Let’s hear what the lovely Jandowae Librarians have to say
What makes Jandowae Library different?
Jandowae Library is unique in the way that it provides a one-stop-shop for many government services. It also provides QLD Government Agency services, Council customer service and local tourist information services.
Although we are one of the smaller libraries in the Western Downs, we are still able to provide our borrowers with new release books and a collection that is regularly rotated and updated.
Why do you love your job?
Mostly because I love helping people in my community, so to be able to do this in such a lovely space makes my days very enjoyable. I particularly enjoy seeing our Seniors discover the basic ways that technology can enhance their lives – Karel
I enjoy working with people and helping them find the information they need. I am a people-oriented person and the Library is a place where the community can connect. Working in a library means that you’ll be learning a lot. There are many new technologies that are being integrated into the job and that we offer for our patrons – Violy
It’s the people that make it a really great job. The variety is absolutely the best. I can be telling someone where to go (Tourist Information), recommending a book, registering a dog, measuring a vehicle and taking a clients will instructions – all in the one morning – Maree
Collection Recommendation
I have always loved reading, as reading educates, entertains, and informs. My choice is reading biographies, autobiographies and memoirs because they provide the most valuable lessons in life. People who write their biographies usually have an interesting story to tell about the trials and tribulations of their own lives. Reading about someone from a different background, era or totally different set of life experiences gives you a new perspective in life.
I have read quite a few biographies of famous people, it gives you a glimpse of their life, mind and ‘knowing’ them.
In our Library, we have a good collection of biographies and memoirs that you can borrow and take home for your reading pleasures. I am confident that you will enjoy reading them! – Violy
Jandowae Library Lovers
“The library is a safe place to hang out. The self-help section has helped me with some questions that no-one talks about and I wouldn’t know who to ask”
“The Jandowae Library is a valuable hub within our community for all who love literature, enjoy art and craft, have a thirst for knowledge, want to meet people with similar interests and so much more. The friendly and helpful staff always greet members and visitors with a smile and willingness to listen, assist with enquiries, make meaningful suggestions and oblige with requests where possible – nothing is too much! The workshops they have provided for members of our community and that I have been lucky enough to attend, have been well organised allowing for all attendees to learn new skills in a fun and pleasant atmosphere. No matter your age, you will always leave the Jandowae Library feeling satisfied.”
