All nine of our Library branches have a local history collection, specific to their local community. These collections have been gathered over many years. They act as a reminder of where we have come from and honour our past and cultural roots.
Due to their historical significance and irreplaceable nature, some items can only be viewed in the Library.
We aim to support the efforts of local historical societies and family history societies to maintain and increase their collection of historical artefacts and resources.
If you are interested in learning more about your own family history, the State Library of Queensland (SLQ) has a wide range of resources available to the family historian. As well as their Family History and Queensland History Collections, SLQ have guides to family research.

Picture Western Downs
Picture Western Downs is a digital collection of local historical photographs. They are an excellent source for local history research, school assignments and for people wanting to see how the Western Downs looked in the ‘old days’.
The images can be viewed, saved and printed from the Western Downs Libraries catalogue.
