The Home Library Service assists eligible Western Downs Libraries members who are unable to visit the library by bringing the library to them.

Our Home Library Service provides a range of library materials to ensure that our members‘ recreational, cultural, educational and entertainment needs are met.

Who is eligible?
Western Downs residents who are unable to visit a library due to frailty or long-term illness and who do not have anyone to visit on their behalf.
People with a shorter-term incapacity may also be eligible.

What happens once a new customer joins Home Library Service?
Once a new customer has joined the Home Library Service (HLS), Library Staff will phone them or their carer to discuss the details of the service and their individual requirements.

We use a customer profile to select items for HLS members. The profile includes details of the type of items preferred (books, magazines, DVDs etc.), how many items for each delivery, genre preferences, and other relevant information.

Customers can be actively involved in selecting items by making suggestions or placing holds online.

How do the Home Library Service deliveries work?
Customers receive a delivery of items to their place of residence. The previous delivery is collected when the next delivery is made. There is no need to pick up from or return the items to a library as our dedicated volunteers look after that for the Home Library Service customers.
Alternatively, we can put a personalised collection of items together and a carer, family member or friend can pick up from your nearest library branch.

Please complete the Home Library Service Application Form (below) and a staff member will be in contact with you shortly.
