Cathy reviews ‘Kings of the Wyld’
Chinchilla Librarian Cathy reviews Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames:
In this epic fantasy novel a band of retired mercenaries go back on the road. Gabriel talks Clay into trying to get the gang back together for one final gig – saving his daughter Rose. She has followed in his footsteps and formed her own band of monster slayers and has perhaps bitten off more than she can chew. Their first recruit is wizard and store owner Moog. Next to rejoin is King Matrick, What could be going wrong in his kingdom? Last but not least is Ganelon. They set off to cross Grandual to help Rose and her band of mercs fight off a horde of 100 000 creatures and their AWFUL Ruler. Along the way they meet all kinds of mythical creatures that need “dealing” with.
This is a novel that moves at a cracking pace as time is of the essence if they are to save Bloody Rose and the rest of civilization as they know it. With loads of humour and wisecracks this bunch of tired, out-of-shape legends shows us why experience counts.
The winner of the David Gemmell Morningstar award for Best Fantasy Debut and the Reddit/Fantasy Award for Best Debut Fantasy Novel has written the fantasy rock and roll road trip of the century. Rock On!
