A Library for Gamers

Hello blog readers!

I recently started up a traineeship through Western Downs Regional Council. I have been lucky enough to be placed in my favourite place of all: the library, and for me it’s a bit of a surreal time. Just a few years ago when it was suggested to me to try volunteering at the local library, I would never have guess how much I would enjoy it. Libraries do so much more than just loan books—they’re a hub for community events, craft sessions, and all sorts of unexpected surprises.

One of those surprises? Video games!

Due to me being an avid gamer outside of work hours, I was pretty excited to discover that not only do our libraries have gaming consoles available to play, but we also have a ton of books related to video games—whether they’re novel adaptations, stories set in gaming worlds, or books exploring the culture of gaming itself.

And the variety? Huge!

For open-world RPG fans – We’ve got novel adaptations of Assassin’s Creed (Odyssey, Origins, and Geirmund’s Saga from Valhalla) as well as The Witcher series, which inspired the popular game.

For FPS enthusiasts – Ever played Metro 2033? It started as a novel before becoming a game!

For arcade & family-friendly fun – If you (or your kids) love Minecraft, Roblox, or Pokémon, we’ve got plenty of books on those too. There’s even a graphic novel based on Splatoon: Splatlands!

Whether you’re a casual gamer, a lore nerd, or just looking for something fun to read, the library has plenty to offer. Why not drop by and see what gaming-inspired books you can discover? Who knows—you might just find your next favorite read!
