The Woman in Me – Britney Spears
‘This book both captivated and moved me.’
I was in high school when Britney’s debut song (Hit Me Baby One More Time) came out. People quickly became fans of Britney. Her self-titled album brought a bunch of hits to our radios over the late 90’s. She continued to dominate through the 2000’s with hit after hit. Britney soon became one of the biggest artists in the millennium. Everyone wanted to know all there was to know about her, and the media soon became a driving force of her troubles that she endured for many years.
This memoir is a raw and honest account of Britney’s childhood, her lead up to fame, relationships she was in and, of course, the conservatorship that saw her parents takeaway all of her rights. Yet during this time she was able to sell out arenas and tour the world. As a mother, I understand the love we have for our children, and how we would give up anything for them. Ultimately, through peoples greed and cruelty, they used Britney’s love for her children against her.
The Woman in Me, is a powerful and moving exploration of freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope. It was written with candor and humour. It illuminates the enduring power of music and love, emphasising the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last. This book both captivated and moved me. Absolutely a “Must-Read” for anyone who cares about survivors of mental health or, just want to read a truely moving human story.
